Plans are afoot for a new movie to be filmed in the west of Ireland this summer, and its producers have an opening for a young star in the making.

British outfit Shudder Films is currently in production to make Learning to Breathe Underwater, starring Rory Kinnear (James Bond ) and Maria Bakalova (Guardians of the Galaxy ).

The romantic flick is understood to revolve around a recently widowed father (Kinnear ) who hires an au pair (Bakalova ) to mind his son, and the film’s main character, Leo.

BAFTA-winning casting company Des Hamilton has put a shout out to recruit a boy aged 8 to 11 – ideally based in Galway – to play Leo. No acting experience is necessary, and the casting agency said it “would love to hear from young people with lived experience of neuro-divergence” although the role is open to all.”

Des Hamilton has had recent notable successes with the Netflix crime drama series Top Boy, set in London. The series won critical acclaim for discovering non-professional actors and placing them in lead roles.
