Google hosted the 11th annual Kinia Creative Tech Youth Events last weekend. Over 600 of Ireland’s future engineering and digital change-makers gathered at The Foundry in Google’s EMEA HQ in Dublin to attend key events as part of Kinia’s Creative Technology Week (from April 15 - 22 ).
Kinia, an education focused non-profit organisation and social enterprise is empowering educators to equip young people with future-focused skills to unlock their full potential.
Now in its 11th year, Kinia’s Creative Technology Week includes bilingual events, welcoming guests working in all types of youth focussed organisations and roles, including teachers, family resource centre professionals, youth workers and young people aged between 12-18 years. The events showcase the incredible creative technology projects young people throughout Ireland have been working on all year, in the areas of STEAM, Digital Media and Computer Science.
Kinia’s Creative Technology Week culminated with two flagship events. Tech Féile on Friday, an all-Irish event, and Creative Tech Fest on Saturday, a bilingual event - marking a now annual celebration of creative technology in Ireland - for young people and those working in schools and youth focused organisations.
The Kinia Creative Technology Award Ceremony celebrated excellence in a range of digital and STEAM projects. Galway’s Coláiste Chroí Mhuire won an award for their brilliant podcast project entitled An Comhrá Conspoideach by Sean Óg Ó Fátharta, Matthew Ó Donabháin, Jeaic Ó Cualáin and Vakaer Jasinskaite.
The podcast creatively tackles controversial conspiracy theories as Gaeilge. The judges noted: “The group used their sound editing skill, as well as their interviewing, researching and acting skills to discuss scandalous controversies surrounding the Moon Landing on An Comhrá Conspóideach.”
Colaiste Chroí Mhuire’s Junk Kouture group also won an award for their project entitled Flora, a gorgeous floral themed dress, inspired by plant biodiversity and climate action. They used packaging from fruit and veg netting to create their vibrant botanical design.
In addition to this, Galway’s Coláiste an Eachréidh also scooped the prestigious Eagraíocht na Bliana Kinia (Organization of the Year ) at the Kinia Tech Feile event. Judges commented: “Coláiste an Eachréidh are longstanding members of our network who have done multiple training courses with us, attended our events, submitted and won awards and been part of our advisory groups. It is great to see them get recognised for all of their hard work again this year at Tech Féile”
