Fresh from releasing their latest single ‘Don’t Fear The Night’ Donegal folk trio The Henry Girls will bring their rich harmonies and powerfully dynamic style to Monroe’s Live on Thursday, May 9, at 8pm.
This fully seated show is part of their Irish tour as sisters Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin craft beautiful traditional melodies with contemporary elements.
Their latest single from their album A Time To Grow incorporates undertones of blues and jazz in a new departure for the group, who have received critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.
The talented siblings bring the rich cultural heritage of their native Donegal to their work, a captivating fusion of harp, fiddle, accordion, and tight three-part harmonies.
Their haunting vocals are also infused with international influences, as they began their career when Lorna and Karen returned from Australia, to be joined by younger sister Joleen.
It was a natural progression for the trio, who kept the familial ties when they named their group after their grandfather.
Fostering a warm folk sound that is peppered with Americana, they chart their life experience of love, new life and also the shock that reverberated following the death of Lyra McKee, who was shot in Derry.
Alongside their albums, they have also written and performed music for theatre productions, film and television, including an Irish Film and Television Award (IFTA ) nomination for their contribution to the music score for ‘A Shine of Rainbows.’
Together, The Henry Girls have captivated audiences with their exceptional musicianship and heartfelt performances.
From reimagining traditional airs to their own compositions, these multi-instrumentalists are a voice for female folk artists for this generation.
