Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Joachim Cooder will perform at Campbell’s Tavern in Headford on Tuesday, April 30.
Considered one of America's most dedicated musical pioneers, Cooder is a member of Cuban ensemble Buena Vista Social Club, and son to Ry Cooder, easily one of the world’s greatest living slide guitarists.
Following a sell-out tour of Ireland last autumn, Joachim’s current 10-venue tour will culminate at the Kilkenny Roots Festival in May. Taylor Lally is the special guest on the tour.
“I grew up in a household very much alive with Irish music. My dad Ry collaborated often with Paddy Maloney and T he Chieftains, so I got to experience the sound up-close and let it sink in and influence me as a player and songwriter,” says Joachim. “One of the last times I saw Paddy we mentioned my Dad’s people were O’ Learys and Paddy said: ‘The O’ Learys are from Cork!’ so this trip to Ireland is a bit of a pilgrimage to find my [roots].”
Joachim has shared tours, stages and recordings with Johnny Cash, Ali Farka Touré, Mavis Staples, Steve Earle, John Lee Hooker, Dr John, and Nick Lowe. He has produced albums for Julia Commagere and Carly Ritter; composed scores for film and collaborated on music for dance.
