The Yeats Thoor Ballylee Society, in partnership with the Galway Culture Company, is hosting an Artist-in-Residence programme this summer at Thoor Ballylee, W.B. Yeats’s summer home near Gort, County Galway.
Following the success of a pilot Artist-in-Residence programme in 2023, this year’s programme will offer two residencies, one in July and one in September. Each residency is for two weeks, and the artists will work at The Studio, located opposite Thoor Ballylee.
Funded by the Galway Culture Company, these residencies aim to highlight the various talents of the Yeats’s family, with W.B. Yeats’s genius for drama, poetry and literature the focus of July’s residency. The September residency focuses on visual arts, textiles, embroidery and printing, in honour of the talents of his siblings, Jack, Susan, and Elizabeth (Lilly and Lolly ) as well as their father, John.
Artists interested in applying can find all the details on the Yeats Thoor Ballylee website: yeatsthoorballylee.org For each two-week residency, successful candidates will receive accommodation, local travel costs, and a daily stipend. Each artist will have the privilege of working beside Yeats’s summer home, deriving inspiration as he did, from the natural beauty surrounding the 15th century Tower House.
The deadline for applications is May 17 and the successful candidates will be notified by June 7 for the July residency and July 5 for the September residency.
