From a ‘Commitments-style’ meeting in the back to the pub four years ago, to their upcoming gig at Monroe’s Live this Saturday, April 13, The Circus Ponies are chomping at their bits to gallop through a festival-style ‘90s experience.
The power of brass, violins and vocals from this Ennis-based band merge together for a celebration of ‘90s dance music. Ranging from ‘Insomnia’ to ‘Right About Now’, ‘One More Time’ to ‘Children’, they reimagine timeless hits of the era with the strength of their 15-piece ensemble.
Combining talent from the Ennis Brass Band, Gospel Choir, Acoustic Club and the Bentley Boys among others, the Ponies were inspired by Block Rocking Beats, Jenny Greene and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
“This will be a trip down memory lane and an assault for the senses, with a wallop of colour and music from the ‘90s,” says band member Darryl Eade. "Playing at Monroe's has always been a goal for us. Many of our members went to College in Galway, and to perform here is a milestone in our journey. Galway is the hub of the arts in the west and we are super excited to play at Monroe’s Live this Saturday night.”
Beyond the stage, the band members are grounded in a shared sense of purpose, and fundraise for Pieta House and Ennis Haven Hub.
Following their big break at the Doolin Folk Festival, The Circus Ponies are on tour, and recently returned from a stomping gig at Tedfest.
The Circus Ponies will perform as part of the ‘Isn’t It Midnight’ dual stage event, with DJ Corey Hadley bringing the hits to the Backstage venue, for an ultimate Saturday night out.
