Recent Booker Prize winner Paul Lynch will discuss his novel Prophet Song and 2005 winner John Banville will converse with author Mike McCormack at Galway's 39th Cúirt literature festival this month.
The Cúirt programme includes poetry, fiction, memoir, non-fiction, masterclasses, workshops, exhibitions, and and a range of over 50 literary events from Tuesday, April 23, to Sunday, April 28.
Besides the two Booker Prize headliners, a range of literary voices will attend the international festival, including Colin Barett, Rita Ann Higgins, Edel Coffey, Elaine Feeney, Mary Costello, Annie MacManus Paul Murray, Jackie Kay, Sinéad Gleeson, Rafeef Ziadah, Lemn Sissay, Leontia Flynn, Ferdia Lennon and many more.
The programme boasts a selection of special events including a conversation between Palestinian writers N.S. Nuseibeh and Rafeef Ziadah. A special screening of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie for April’s edition of the Cinema Book Club at the Pálás. Kai’s Jess Murphy, Bryan Washington, Jennie Moran, and Louise Kennedy will participate in a scrumptious conversation about food in fiction. Nicole Flattery will host a special live edition of The Stinging Fly Podcast with Caoilinn Hughes to discuss her new book, The Alternatives.
There’s a number of events about Ireland - from conversations about the country’s treatment of women and the legacies of the past with Molly Hennigan and Clair Wills, to growing up in the Troubles with Máiría Cahill and Martin Doyle, to Jackie Uí Chionna’s book about Galway-native Emily Anderson, Queen of Codes, to Leon Diop and Brianna Fitzsimmons of the Black & Irish organisation, and their landmark book Black & Irish: Legends, Trailblazers & Everyday Heroes.
