Sean Canney, Independent TD Galway East, has welcomed the commencement of the refurbishment of the courthouse building in Portumna.
The milestone in the project was marked by the signing of the contract between Galway County Council and the building contractor Michael Kelly, Moate, Co. Westmeath.
The investment of two million will involve the total refurbishment of the building as an exhibition, event space, and will include ancillary works including a new landscaped courtyard. This renovation will extend the streetscape of Portumna to provide additional high quality public realm.
Canney said on the commencement; “I am delighted to see that Galway County Council are being pro-active in extracting funds from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF ) administered by the Department of Rural & Community Development. This scheme was initiated by Minister Michael Ring and I when I was Minister of State for Rural Affairs.”
