Galway has been revealed as one of Ireland's most popular destinations this St Patrick’s Day bank holiday weekend.
According to the latest research from payments and solutions expert Easytrip, of which 4,761 drivers were surveyed, more than half (51% ) were planning to take to the roads around Ireland over the bank holiday. The most popular destinations were revealed as Galway, Cork, Kerry, Donegal and Wexford.
When respondents were asked who the dream road trip passenger would be, Irish golfer Shane Lowry came out on top. Lowry was followed by former Irish rugby captain Johnny Sexton, presenter Claire Byrne, and President Michael D Higgins. Oscar winner Cillian Murphy placed fifth.
Annoying driving habits also played an important part in the survey, with the use of mobile phones the number one infuriating behaviour among Irish motorists. Not indicating, tailgating, driving too slow, and throwing rubbish out the car window also anger drivers.
Respondents were asked about the must-have travel items to bring in the car on road trips, and leading the list was a USB car charger for devices. This was followed by creating a pre-planned map route and music playlist, along with plenty of snacks for the road.
Electric vehicle (EV ) drivers are familiar with making pit stops to recharge when taking a car journey. Therefore, respondents to the Easytrip survey, who were EV drivers, were asked what they do while charging their vehicle - revealing the top three as being: Grabbing a coffee/snack, getting some fresh air, and listening to audio (radio or podcast ).
