Joyce Mathias, Green Party candidate for the Galway City East in the upcoming council elections said she was moved to tears at the sight of her Mervue Church choir colleagues, the great turnout of the community, her friends, and all who attended her candidacy launch and fundraiser last week.
Spekaing at the event, Dr Rachel Hilliard, Director of Strategy, Innovation and People Management, who taught Ms Mathias during her masters programme at University of Galway and was her neighbour for over 12 years, said that “Joyce’s tenacity, bravery, insight, wisdom and many other skills made her a good candidate.”
Senator Pauline O’Reilly told the audience that she chose Joyce Mathias to run because of her passion for social justice, humanity and climate.
The first migrant solicitor, Mariam Olusoji described Mathias as being tenacious, passionate for social justice and climate action, and dedicated to duties.
Each speaker brought unique perspectives on environmental responsibility, community empowerment, and women’s empowerment, stressing the urgent need for action and support.
The event also featured testimonials, a raffle, and an engaging panel discussion, offering deep dives into the correlation between climate change, sustainability, and their impact on both Ireland and developing countries.
The day concluded with networking opportunities, allowing all to connect and discuss how we can collectively contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
