Quaker’s street collection in aid of people of Gaza

Irish Quaker Faith in Action, in conjunction with Islamic Relief, will hold a street collection for the people of Gaza in Galway City this Saturday March 9.

As this latest cycle of violence continues unabated between the Israeli Defence Forces and Hamas, more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly civilians, overwhelmingly women and children. “While we wait for the International Court of Justice to issue its verdict on the charge of genocide, more than two million people have been ordered to vacate their homes in contravention of international human rights law, and are now displaced, without adequate shelter, food, water, or protection from the relentless bombing and indiscriminate shooting,” they said.

“Since October 7, IQFA, along with our sister charities have been working with our partners on the ground, in daily contact, try to give hope and material support.

Proceeds from the collection will go to help alleviate the suffering of people in Gaza through our long-standing partnerships and projects.

The Religious Society of Friends have been in Palestine since the mid 19th century. They oppose all wars and violent confrontation, as well as the circumstances that lead to wars. This Lenten season coincides with the Holy Month of Ramadan for our Muslim neighbours and friends. Let us work together to bring hope and peace to the people of Gaza.

We call on the international community to lobby for an immediate cessation of violence, the end of the forced evacuation and targeting of hospitals, care workers and civilians, for the introduction of an open humanitarian corridor and the beginning of unconditional talks aimed at a just and lasting peace.
