Musical theatre composer, therapist and political activist Daniel Maté will speak at an event in Galway this month, including a blend of traditional Irish and Palestinian music.
The award-winning composer, lyricist and playwright for musical theatre will participate in a public interview with broadcaster Síle Seoige at Monroe’s Live on Thursday, March 28, at 7.30pm.
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Maté currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. Along with his father, the renowned Dr Gabor Maté, Daniel co-authored the New York Times best-selling book The Myth of Normal; Trauma, Illness and Healing in a Toxic Culture.
This book is well-known for its ground-breaking examination of the causes of illness and how society is linked to disease. It also offers a compassionate guide for health and healing. The dynamic father and son duo are currently working on a new publication entitled Hello Again: A Fresh Start for Parents and Their Adult Children.
More recently, Daniel has become known for his advocacy and outspoken support for Palestine. His enlightening perspective is informed not only by his work in the area of trauma and healing, but also by his personal experience as a Jewish Holocaust descendant.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to witness Daniel in candid conversation with broadcaster Síle Seoige about trauma, healing and the world we live in,” says Galway-based psychologist, Dr Suzanne McClean, of Wellness Hub Galway.
In collaboration with Wellness Hub Galway this event will include an integration of traditional Irish and Palestinian music from Róisín El Cherif, Róisín Elsafty, Ruth Smith and Fergal Scahill.
A raffle will take place on the night in support of Palestinian Children's Relief Fund (PCRF ).
