Discover the delights of Gran Canaria

Fahy Travel's office manager Clodagh is just back from holidays in Amadores, Gran Canaria with her son, staying in the four-star Gloria Palace Amadores Hotel. There are weekly departures from Shannon to Gran Canaria during the winter months, and you can avail of winter sun temperatures between 18°C and 24°C, perfect for Irish holidaymakers.

One of the highlights was a visit to Puerto Mogan by water taxi. Often called 'Little Venice', this resort is a very quaint village on the sea front, famous for its vibrant flowers and charming architecture.

The resort of Amadores is just next to Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, you can walk there by the seafront, there is a marina here lined with a great choice of restaurants for evening dining and the newly opened shopping mall with more than 60 shops to choose from and a variety of excellent restaurants, very different from the older commercial centre.

While staying in the Gloria Palace, Clodagh went for the half board option and found that there was great choice, offering something for everybody. This hotel has a buffet restaurant with show cooking and nightly themed buffets. There are several bars, including a piano bar and pool bar. Bed and breakfast and all inclusive rates are also on offer.

The Gloria Palace Amadores is set on a clifftop, between Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria and Amadores Beach. The hotel offers two infinity outdoor pools with spectacular Atlantic Ocean views. It also boasts one of the largest thalassotherapy centres in Europe, offering a seawater pool, massage and a variety of treatments. It also has a sauna, Turkish bath and physiotherapy pool for your complete relaxation.

Air-conditioned rooms have a private balcony with some with sea views and private pools. There is satellite TV, and you can avail of safe and minibar for a nominal charge. Guests have access to free WiFi in their rooms and throughout the hotel.

The hotel also offers an excellent activity programme — tennis coaching on the floodlit tennis court, gym, table tennis, bowls, archery and darts. Children have their own swimming pool/splash area, playground and mini-club. Evening shows are provided for both adults and children.
