Hybrid models preferred engine type for 241

Almost one in two drivers are interested in purchasing a hybrid model during the current 241-registration period, according to research carried out by mobility services specialist Easytrip.

Hybrid models are the preferred choice of 14 per cent more drivers than last year’s research. This was followed by 27 per cent of motorists who were considering an electric vehicle purchase, while 27 per cent chose diesel and 14 per cent selected petrol.

Easytrip said it quizzed 4,761 respondents to unearth the level of anticipated new car purchases for the 241-registration period, the factors impacting electric vehicle sales and current motorist concerns.

The survey found that a reduction in EV price, good public charging network, free home charger installation, an increase in the SEAI grant, and a government scrappage scheme would influence their decision to buy electric.

Other general concerns for motorists highlighted in the survey include rising fuel prices, poor road conditions, the cost of car insurance, traffic policing and incidents, NCT delays, car service costs and motor tax costs.
