Aloha Surf School is located at the beautiful Fanore Beach, in the heart of the Burren, and just one hour from Galway city. It is a Blue Flag beach and the first surf beach south of Galway.
Because of its relative remoteness it does not enjoy the fame attached to less attractive but better known surf destinations in Ireland such as Lahinch. All the better for those who go there!
The beautiful Fanore Beach with all its space, solitude, and uncrowded surf provides the ideal location for those wanting to learn to surf. Surfing with Aloha Surf School in Fanore allows surfers to escape the masses and really enjoy the surfing experience.
To keep the children busy this summer Aloha will running its five-day children’s surf camps during the school holidays. As always, the camp features two fun packed hours each day and is open to children from ages eight to 16 years.
At Aloha staff appreciate that being a parent is not always easy, so they make these camps as flexible as possible — kids can go for as few or as many lessons as they want!
All surf lessons are fully supervised by instructors who are all fully qualified Irish Surfing Association surf instructors and beach lifeguards — and extremely patient! Children’s first experiences with the ocean will shape their attitudes to it for the rest of their lives, and so the kids’ camps are designed to get children off to a fun and safe start. Lessons are held in maximum waist depth water and instructors are in the water at all times, so children don’t have to be very strong swimmers. All equipment is provided including wetsuits, wetsuit boots, and soft surfboards, so all they need to bring is their swimming gear, a towel, and some warm clothes for afterwards.
Each day throughout the camp, while learning to surf, children will also be introduced to various topics such as surf safety, learning about rip currents and tides, etc. At the end of the week they finish with a surf competition where the children get to show off their skills.
They can also take part in the ISA's Whitewater Surf Skills Awards. This allows the surfers to have their skills recognised and on passing the different levels they receive a certificate and a log book to record their achievements.
