23-year-old Rally driver, Aoife Raftery, has been driving lots of excitement in the sports scene since her Spanish rally debut in November 2023 when she raced home second in the highly competitive Rally4 class. Last weekend (Feb 2 to 4 ), the Galway-native was the only female driver to compete in the Corrib Oil Galway International Rally for the second successive year, motoring the same Peugeot 208 Rally 4 that she used on five rounds of the FIA Junior European Rally Championship in 2023.
Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy member Aoife was the proud ‘Women in Sport’ Ambassador of last weekend’s 2024 Galway International Rally event, and she is courageously steering young and aspiring ladies on a road to feeling empowered, ambitious and hopeful for the future of females in sport.
When she is not drifting the roads, Aoife lives in the village of Craughwell with her family, only a 10-minute drive from Oranmore town. Beyond the international racetrack where she flies her Irish flag, Aoife is flying her Galway colours and supporting Maree Oranmore Football club in their most recent fundraiser: Win A Home In Oranmore.
Ruth Broderick, Vice Chairperson at Maree Oranmore FC, expresses sincere gratitude on behalf of the club who are “truly grateful for the support received from female sports star Aoife Raftery. Her efforts to support our soccer club fundraiser symbolises a shared commitment to the well-being of our sports community here in county Galway; a commitment to bettering the sports facilities available to kids of all ages, genders and abilities, today and into the future.”??
