SVP Galway needs new volunteers

If you are interested in helping your community through volunteering, you can attend the SVP Open Evening at the Menlo Park Hotel on Jan 16, 2024, at 7.30pm.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul has over 200 members from all walks of life working in the Galway city area but needs new people constantly to maintain our services especially in these demanding times.

The SVP Mission is to provide support and friendship, to promote self-sufficiency, and to promote Social Justice. No work of charity is foreign to the Society.

SVP activities include home visitation, social housing, croi na gaillimhe resource centre, education support, shops, food hub etc. Our focus is on a practical approach to dealing with poverty, alleviating its effects on individuals and families primarily through person-to-person contact.

Members usually meet weekly in conferences of about seven people but there are various flexible ways in which members can participate in the Society. Training, induction and Garda vetting are required for members.

The Open Evening will include a presentation on the above topics and members will be present to discuss their activities and experiences of the range of activities the Society offers.

The Society is open to everyone. If you cannot attend this meeting, you can find out more through our website www.svp.ie and/or check volunteering specifically at https://www.svp.ie/ways-to-help/volunteer/ . You can also make contact by email at [email protected].
