Alt-pop rockers Something Happens return to Monroe’s Live on Thursday, December 28.

With sold-out shows across the country and tickets in high demand for a band that rarely tours, this is a unique opportunity to catch the Dublin band as it goes on the road again.

Formed in the late 1980s, lead vocalist and songwriter Tom Dunne, guitarist Ray Harman, bassist Alan Byrne, and drummer Eamonn Ryan will storm through their hits at the Galway venue. Dunne’s voice will be well-known to listeners of Newstalk FM where he works as a broadcaster and music critic.

Their breakthrough came with the 1988 debut album Been There, Seen That, Done That which featured the hit single ‘Parachute’. The track catapulted Something Happens into the limelight, showcasing their ability to create anthemic tunes, layered with Dunne's distinctive vocals and the band's tight instrumentation.

Something Happens' music embodies a spirited mix of jangle-pop sensibilities and rock energy, drawing influence from the indie and alternative scenes.

The 1990 follow-up album, Stuck Together with God's Glue, further solidified their standing. Known for their energetic live performances, they’ve maintained a loyal fan base over the years.

With a discography that spans several albums and a string of memorable singles, including ‘Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello (Petrol ),’ the band remains an enduring presence in Irish rock.

Support on Thursday, December 28 is from singer-songwriter Paul J. Bolger, who embraces rock, with the sentimentality of artists such as Paul Brady and Jackie Leven.

Bolger as an all-round entertainer has pivoted from drawing, directing and design in the late ‘80s to recording highly received albums, The Start of It, Hard Truth and Peacemaker.
