Following a stomping show last July, folk and rock n’ roll artist George Murphy returns to Monroe’s with The Rising Sons this Wednesday, December 27, at 8pm.
Once described by Phil Coulter as “the most exciting vocal find in Ireland”, the Dubliner has toured the globe with The High Kings.
Recently, he was honoured to perform with Glen Hansard, Lisa O’Neill, John Sheahan and The Pogues for a heartfelt rendition of ‘Fairytale of New York’ at musician Shane McGowan’s funeral.
Having initially gained recognition on TV’s You're a Star, Murphy has explored a diverse range of musical styles throughout the years.
Now, with The Rising Sons, he stages a triumphant return to his origins, blending Irish folk with rock n' roll.
This eight-piece Rising Sons ensemble includes ‘the Whistling Wizard’ David Brown, multi-instrumentalists Declan Parsons and Jimmy Morrison, Joey ‘The Bass’ Hughes, electric guitarist Tommy Whelan, percussionist Shane O’Hannigan and fiddle player Sean Regan. Murphy, a Beaumont native, adds his Luke Kelly-like voice.
Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and John Lennon, Murphy found his home in a band born out of a local session on his doorstep. Their music delves into the depths of shared heritage, unveiling shadows of our collective pasts.
Support on the night is from Limerick singer-songwriter Jenny Räisänen. Originally from Finland, the powerful vocalist combines Scandinavian sounds into her folk-pop style with authenticity and grace.
She released her debut solo single ‘A Whisper’ in April followed by ‘A Bird’ in May.
