November is National Men’s Health Month, and we are excited to celebrate and bring awareness to students within the college. We started off this past week with a simple coffee morning to get the conversation flowing. We will follow on with an awareness campaign, giving students a chance to speak with a diverse range of charities and companies. We will finish off the month with our societies raising money for a charity of their choice. There will be many different fundraisers, with one student even promising to shave his head when €1,000 is raised.
Here at ATU Galway-Mayo, the voices of students are at the heart of our academic community. This commitment to student representation takes a significant step forward as our newly appointed Class Representatives undergo training, gearing up for their role in shaping the student experience. Our reps have been empowered with the tools they need to enhance the student experience and strive towards a greater student community. We will start next week off by holding our first Class Rep Council, giving them the chance to voice any concerns on behalf of their class and share insights into their classes' experience. The council will also serve as a platform for open dialogue, allowing Class Reps to work collectively towards positive change.
After a long wait, ATU Galway City has partnered with FoodCloud, to alleviate some of the financial stress put on this generation of students. The School of Hotel is hosting 'Pobal Bia', where students get to grab a full bag and anything else they can carry under their arms, of fresh, delicious foods for just €5 per week. The variety of food extends to ingredients from a healthy breakfast, lunch, and even dinner. Located on the Dublin Road campus, it will be held once a week for 3 hours in the evening time allowing students to pick up their shopping and head home.
Letterfrack Open Day is taking place tomorrow, Friday 10th. Come and explore the creativity of our students’ projects on display. On the day, we will see a range of demos from both students and staff using many types of instruments and machinery. Embark on a journey through our workshops, led by our experienced staff. Witness the transformation of raw materials into exquisite pieces of craftsmanship. With our master craftsmen and training teachers, students will leave ATU Connemara ready to be an important part of society.
Your Students Union Team are looking forward to joining you all at the Connemara and Mayo campus conferrings next week, where we will be there to make the day even more special. We will be running around chatting to you all, asking you to join in on our videos and have some fun with us! We are also starting a what we hope will be long lasting tradition. We will have a plain SU T-shirt at all ceremonies where we will ask graduates to sign their name. At the end of the ceremony, we will get all T-shirt’s framed and hang them on the relevant campus.
