Tremendous day at O’Donnellan & Joyce national live stream auction with €4 million in sales

O’Donnellan & Joyce, a leading expert both locally and nationally for selling properties by auction, reported a tremendous day for both buyers and sellers at its auction on Friday.

With properties throughout Ireland from Galway to Donegal down to Kerry, and even out to the island of Inisbofin, along with a number of properties in Dublin all going under the auction hammer, the event attracted not only local but also national and international interest.

The live stream auction was conducted in the office of O’Donnellan & Joyce, which was transformed into a studio by Brandt International where the auction was conducted live by Ireland’s leading auctioneer Colm O’Donnellan and streamed internationally. During the auction people can bid either over the phone or online while also watching live from the comfort of their own homes.

Lot 1 – Ballyrameen Lower, Castlemaine, Co Kerry

Lot 1 of the day was a four bedroom detached residence standing on a large site of circa one acre. This spacious residence set in a rural location does require some modernising and upgrading throughout but this did not put off prospective buyers. After intense bidding from four bidders, the lot sold for €245,000, a huge €85,000 over its reserve price of €160,000.

Lot 2 – 33 River Crest Tuam, Co Galway

This two bedroom semidetached residence is situated on the outskirts of Tuam town, just off the Dublin Road. Tuam is an ideal commuter town with easy access to Galway city via the M17 motorway. It is in need of upgrading and modernising throughout but is an ideal investment or starter home. With three bidders going head-to-head it was swiped off the market for €90,000.

Lot 3 – Sragh, Ballybay, Co Monaghan

This is a four bedroom detached two storey residence located in a rural setting on a site of circa 0.5 acre. While in need of upgrading both internally and externally, it was sold at auction for €116,000, exceeding its reserve price of €100,000.

Lot 4 – Former Garda station and residence, Kiltullagh, Athenry, Co Galway

Lot 4 from the auction was a detached bungalow situated on a substantial site with adjoining self-contained office. Formerly used as the Kiltullagh Garda Station, the property is just 20 minutes from Galway city centre via the M6. The property is presented in good condition but could benefit from some upgrade works. After intense bidding it was sold for €240,000, well above the reserve of €175,000.

Lot 5 – No 2 Sheana Phairc, Killadangan, Dungarvan, Co Waterford

This modern four bedroom detached residence is located within a small development of only three houses. It is bright and spacious and could benefit from some internal finishing works but would be suitable as a permanent residence or, due to its location close to the coastal and harbour town of Dungarvan, an ideal weekend or holiday home. The winning bidder took this property off the market for €295,000.

Lot 8 – No 29 St Kevin's Road, Portobello, Co Dublin

No 29 St Kevin's Road presented another excellent opportunity to acquire an extended three bedroom period home with tenants in situ. It is superbly located on a quiet and ever-popular residential street minutes from St Stephen's Green and all that the city centre has to offer. This property did not go without a fight, with three bidders bidding intensely. The winning bidder secured it for €625,000, far exceeding its reserve price of €555,000.

Lot 9 – No 55 Rock Road, Blackrock, Co Dublin

Lot 9 offered a handsome three bedroom period home situated minutes from all that Blackrock village and its environs has to offer. It presents as an attractive blank canvas where the winning bidder, who took it off the market at €425,000, can create a warm and inviting home in accordance with their own personal taste and requirements.

Lot 14 – No 151 Seacrest, Shangort Road, Knocknacarra, Co Galway

This substantial four bedroom semidetached home overlooking a leafy central green space is ideally positioned in a quiet residential cul-de-sac offering a family-friendly atmosphere. Seacrest is moments from several outdoor attractions such as McGrath's Field and playground, Barna Woods, Cappagh Park, Silverstrand Beach and Salthill Promenade, all to be enjoyed by the winning bidder who took the property off the market for €370,000.

Lot 18 – No 33 Tower Hill, Ballymote, Co Sligo

No 33 Tower Hill is a four bedroom terraced residence currently occupied and being sold with tenants in place. Tower Hill is located within a five minute walk of Ballymote town and is close to Sligo town. After some intense bidding, the property was snapped up for €70,000.

Lot 20 – Middlequarter, Inishbofin, Co Galway

Lot 20 presented a cottage that overlooks Bofin Harbour on an elevated site. This traditional-style Irish cottage offers unrivalled views out to the Atlantic Ocean. This idyllic island can be reached by ferry on a daily basis from Cleggan Pier. There was intense bidding from clients throughout Ireland and overseas for this excellent opportunity. Bidding commenced at €100,000 and, amid a frenzy of seven bidders, it was sold for €190,000.

Lot 21 – No 6 Oakley Crescent, Highfield Park, Galway

This substantial sized four bedroom semidetached residence positioned is the highly popular Highfield Park residential area of Galway city. No 6 Oakley Crescent is equidistant to Galway city centre and Salthill Promenade. Offering potential for a great investment property, it is sale agreed at €440,000.

Lot 24 – seven acres, Donegal Road, Ballybofey, Co Galway

Lot 24 offered a detached derelict cottage along with adjoining seven acres situated on the outskirts of Ballybofey town. It is currently overgrown but is ideally located overlooking the N15. The winning bidder now has an ideal opportunity to refurbish the cottage or redevelop the site, all for €175,000.

Lot 25 – Newline Road, Balleybofey, Co Donegal

This three bedroom bungalow standing on its own site on the outskirts of Ballybofey town is currently tenanted and being sold with tenants in situ. Located within walking distance of Ballybofey town, it is ideally situated close to all amenities and services and was sold under the hammer for €145,000.

Lot 26 – Land at Forquar, Milford, Co Donegal

Lands comprised of 4.5 acres located next to Moyle View housing development. Situated on the edge of Milford town along the Moyles Road. This excellent opportunity was sold under the auction hammer for €50,000.

Lot 28 – Manor Place, Manorcunningham, Co Donegal

Lot 28 offered a detached mixed use commercial building located in the centre of Manorcunningham, a busy village with a number of residential housing developments in the locality. The property has been vacant for a period of time and is in need of upgrading and repairing throughout, but this did not put off the bidders and it was sold for €140,000.

Lot 30 – Euroworld, Abbey Street, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo

Euroworld is a mid-terrace building on one of Ballinrobe’s premier streets, that came to market in excellent condition. Recently trading as a Euroworld bargain store, the upper floor can be accessed internally from the ground floor while also having a separate entrance from Abbey Street. This excellent opportunity was sold prior to the auction.

Lot 31 – No 37 Tur Uisce, Doughiska, Galway

No 37 Tur Uisce is a three storey terraced residence located in the quiet and popular area of Doughiska on the east side of Galway city, close to Briarhill Shopping Centre and multiple primary and secondary schools. This property would be an ideal owner-occupier residence or a superb investment property and has been sale agreed post auction. It came to market with a reserve of €230,000.

This was the fifth of seven auctions of 2023 and Colm O’Donnellan said that they were delighted with the brilliant results and the number of properties that they obtained throughout Ireland to sell by auction.
