Dramatist Garry Hynes was nominated for a Best Director award by the UK Theatre Awards last week for DruidO’Casey, the production of Sean O’Casey’s Dublin Trilogy.
Set in Dublin slums throughout war and revolution, The Plough and The Stars, The Shadow of a Gunman and Juno and the Paycock premiered as a trilogy at the Galway International Arts Festival in July. It then toured to The Lyric Theatre in Belfast, and Abbey Theatre in Dublin.
Galway’s Druid co-founder Hynes tours the O’Casey trilogy to New York and Michigan in October.
The UK Theatre Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in theatre across Britain and Northern Ireland, with DruidO’Casey’s run in Belfast earning Hynes’ critical nomination.
