With Hollywood on strike complaining about AI taking over movie makers’ jobs, Galway’s Pálás has decided to investigate cinema’s relationship with this latest technology.
Showing throughout this autumn, More Human than Human is a cinematic exploration of humanity’s complex relationship with the intelligent machines it has created, including special showings, post-movie talks, and – for man’s best friend: dog-friendly screenings.
The season begins with Steven Spielberg’s AI: Artificial Intelligence followed by a live discussion with a panel of Irish scientists on Sunday, September 24.
Audiences can visit a theme park where robots malfunction in Westworld, or fly to Jupiter with the softly spoken but murderous HAL 9000 in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Highlights of the season include Metropolis, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, The Matrix, Ex Machina, Her, Metropolis, and many more
“While Hollywood’s screenwriters and actors are on strike against the real-life, insidious impact of AI on our lives and livelihoods, Pálás is revisiting some of the best films about the rise of machine intelligence,” says Pálás Programmer William Fitzgerald.
The More Human than Human series will showcase movies from 1927 (Metropolis ) to the present (Her ).
On Sunday, October 8, cinemagoers and canine companions can follow waste collecting robot, WALL-E, on a fantastic adventure across the universe with a DOG-E friendly screening.
