Galway Film Society returns to Pálás for its autumn season

GFS’s opening film is the Galway premier of French drama La Syndicaliste, which tells the extraordinary real-life story of Mayo-born Maureen Kearney, a senior French trade unionist-turned-whistleblower, who was forced to fight for justice.

Maureen Kearney will attend a pre-film GFS reception this Sunday, September 17, at Pálás in Galway city.

Following its 2022 world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, La Syndicaliste - starring Isabelle Huppert - became France’s most-watched thriller last year, with over 500,000 admissions at French cinemas.

GFS’s autumn season presents six films, representing a range of newly acclaimed and award-winning titles from around the world. GFS will also screen three short films, providing an important platform for emerging filmmakers.

Other upcoming highlights in GFS’ new season include the recent Karlovy Vary International Film Festival Best Director winner Fremont; the multi-award winning Spanish drama The Beasts (As Bestas ); and dance drama and French box-office hit Rise (En Corps ).

GFS Sunday films will screen at 8pm, and GFS Monday films will screen at 6.30pm.

GFS season tickets, at a subsidised price of €45 for six films, and individual film tickets, are available from Pálás.

Season ticket holders enjoy a range of benefits: event invitations, car parking, and discounts and voucher draws from the society’s sponsors Ard Bia, Cava Bodega, Kai, Rúibín, and The Hardiman Hotel.
