As the lead guitarist for American country music stars, Tanya Tucker and Gretchen Wilson, and having featured as a singer on the acclaimed ‘Oh Brother Where Art Thou’ soundtrack, Nashville’s Porter McClister will bring his renowned country, roots and honky-tonk soul to Monroe’s Live on Saturday, September 2 at 8pm.
This is a unique opportunity to catch this stalwart of the Nashville music scene in the intimate surrounds of the award winning Dominick Street venue.
With a career that spans both solo work and collaborations with international artists, Porter McClister’s talent has resonated far and wide.
A graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, his formal training as a classical pianist at Michigan College also laid the groundwork for his subsequent success as a singer and guitarist.
The North Carolina born musician has shared the stage with country music powerhouses such as ‘Delta Dawn’ singer and recent inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Tanya Tucker, and the Grammy award winning, Gretchen Wilson.
Not only that, Porter's vocal talents shine through his backing vocals on the ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’ soundtrack, specifically on the haunting track ‘Down to the River,’ where he harmonises with the incomparable Alison Krauss.
Often found at the home of traditional country music in Nashville, Robert's Western World, Porter was part of the legendary Don Kelley band, a group that nurtured and provided the stepping stone for many of the world’s leading country musicians, until it disbanded in 2020.
With such accolades, touring experience and classical training, Porter McClister has solidified his status as a talented and influential figure in the world of country and roots music.
And his connection to Ireland is such that he describes it warmly as a “home away from home,” with gigs that are “fun” thanks to the “Irish people” and states “if he could snap his fingers” he would “live here forever.”
