Not many artists can say they are embarking on a solo tour around Ireland on a trusty 125cc scooter.
And yet Bray reared, Berlin based singer-songwriter Caoi de Barra is doing just that, following appearances with Grammy-nominated Allison Russell at Glastonbury.
She is set to park her two wheels at Monroe’s Live on Friday, August 11 at 8pm to bring her soulful music, combined with a dash of folk and pop, to Galway as she blends influences from iconic artists such as Jeff Buckley and Joni Mitchell.
Best known as a member of the acclaimed alternative-pop trio, Wyvern Lingo, Caoi is making waves in the music scene in her own right following the release of her debut EP, Thicket last year.
The EP offers a glimpse into her artistic prowess as a solo artist and showcases her growth since her days with the band.
Her music has evolved into a reflection of her own personal experiences and unique perspective on life, marked by a sense of authenticity and a willingness to explore new musical territories.
For instance, her delicate pop song, Treehouse, is a summer-bop with a petulant heart, as she captures the disillusionment of the housing crisis and how it leaves so many in a perpetual state of adolescence.
She describes the accompanying music video as “lush, playful and bittersweet; a cartoonish take on the idea of seemingly being unable to adult”.
As such, her storytelling is both intimate and relatable, creating a strong connection with her audience. So much so, the song Treehouse made the sought after RTE recommends playlist in July.
Speaking about the tour, Caoi says;
“Exploring the backroads, towns and villages of Ireland on my 125 cc scooter feels extremely peaceful and enriching to me.
“Less practical than a car, but low on fuel usage, and almost as romantic as travelling on horseback. On top of that I have the privilege of performing my songs for people in the places I go to, immediately immersed in the local arts scene. The scooter tour for me is the perfect solo quest.”
She will be joined on the night by Holland’s acclaimed electro-pop duo, twin sisters Nina and Laura Philips, of the band ATKD.
