American Indie-Rock Band We Are Scientists to Perform New Album 'Lobes'

With strong 1980s synth pop tones, We Are Scientists are continuing to scale new heights with the release of their latest album ‘Lobes’. For two decades, the American indie-rock band, who originated in Berkeley, California have brought their introspective and catchy lyricism to the masses, with a peppering of humour for good measure.

And now they will bring their latest work and classic hits to Monroe’s Live on Saturday, August 5 at 8pm. From high powered dance rock to funky guitar rhythms, We Are Scientists continue to create feel good, free spirited, tracks.

Their carefree edge has endeared them to the masses, since vocalist Keith Murray, bassist Chris Cain and drummer Keith Carne burst onto the scene with the release of their debut album, Love and Squalor in 2005.

Since then, the band have released eight more albums to critical acclaim including Brain Thrust Mastery, and TV en Francais. Not only that, but they are renowned for their ironic take on life, with an element of sarcasm and wit that adds to their charismatic presence, both on stage and in the recording studio.

So much so, their early work drew inspiration for lyrics from comic books and films, while their music was heavily influenced by punk overtones, from The Rapture to David Bowie. The now New York based band are at their most playful and creatively free, continuing to open up their sound to more of Chris and Keith’s own input on production.

Even the word ‘Lobes’ has created comic consternation for many, as Keith Murray cites;

“I loved the associations the word has with cerebral biology and the evocation of sci-fi; I really love the reaction it evokes in people, a great reaction to such a benign word. It’s also pretty fun to say. Lobes.”

It follows on from the weighty indie rock masterpiece of Huffy in 2021. The west is set for a treat when this lovable and dynamic duo gig at the award winning Monroe’s Live venue this Saturday night.

Their live performances are renowned for their fun and camaraderie, creating an engaging connection with audiences worldwide. With elements of post-punk, power-pop, and new wave, their distinctive sound has earned them a significant presence on the indie music scene.

Support on the night is from four-piece high energy rock band, Sick Love, who garnered a strong following when their single ‘Gun In Your Pocket’ was featured on the hit TV Show ‘The Young Offenders’.

This emerging band have toured across Ireland and the UK selling out headliners thanks to their no-holds-barred approach.

Described as one of the best acts on the Irish music scene at the moment, and fronted by the already iconic Rebecca Geary, Sick Love are back with their raucous sound and fearless lyrics.
