Galway Race week is in full swing and as always, the style did not disappoint. The only place to be to kick off the week was the Connacht Hotel where Racing for Rosabel in aid of Rosabel’s Rooms was back for its sixth year.
Sports broadcaster and well-known name in the racing world Tracy Piggott was the MC who also ensured the guests were up on all the tips for the week along with top jockey Robbie Power and Gary Monroe.
However, it was the best dressed competition that really got the attention of the judges Fiona Morgan Coleman and Gillian Duggan and with prizes worth over €6000 the ladies and gents of Galway did not disappoint.
Michelle Lally from Galway wearing a stunning dress from The Stables, Birr and headpiece by renowned Milliner Majella Lennon was crowned best dressed lady. Her beautiful monochrome ensemble won her an amazing €1700 worth of vouchers from Eyre Square Shopping Centre in Galway. Michelle said “I am in absolute shock; I can’t believe it. I love this event; I am delighted to just be here so to win is amazing.”
A colourful headpiece made from a lampshade in the winners’ house won the best headpiece sponsored by Bellissimo Galway. Savannah Bergin stole the show when she the last MC Tracy Piggot that her headpiece was made on her kitchen table only two nights previously from a lamp shade in her bedroom, Savannah said; “I purchased my dress in Canella Lane and I knew I wanted something colourful to go with it, because it was last minute I couldn't get the right headpiece so I decided to make my own. I can’t believe it.”
It was three in a row for Galway with another local man taking the prize for best dressed gent, Cormac Clery was shocked when his name was announced as the winner, his salmon colour jacket with a white and navy trimmed shirt took the attention of the judges and he was delighted to win a fabulous holiday from The Travel Suite.
Rosabel’s Rooms is in partnership with the Irish Hospice Foundation, and it was set up by Suzanne McClean and Gary Monroe following the unexpected passing of their 16-month-old daughter, Rosabel Monroe. Suzanne said after the event; “We are delighted with another hugely successful event, a massive thank you everyone who has supported today and of course a huge thanks to the Connacht Hotel for holding such a beautiful event. “
Guests enjoyed music by Strings and Things while the beautiful voice of up-and-coming singer Ciara Lawless left the audience speechless after her beautiful performance.
The event is a highlight for Galway Race week, and it certainly set the bar high in style for the rest of the week.
Racing for Rosabel has generated vital funds for Rosabel’s Rooms, the much-needed child-loss organisation that supports bereaved parents and families around Ireland.
