Drunk found asleep on Supermac’s floor racks up 57th conviction

A man racked up his 57th conviction after being found fast asleep on the floor of Supermac’s and then becoming abusive to gardai when they woke him up.

Michael Mallon (33 ) with an address at 112 Renmore Park was brought before Galway District Court last Monday where he pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place and to threatening and abusive behaviour at Supermac’s, Cross Street, on May 13, 2009.

The court heard that at 10.30pm the defendant had been found lying on the floor of Supermacs fast asleep. When he was woken by gardai he became extremely abusive telling them to “f**k off”. He also called one of the Garda officers a “f**king prick”. As the fast food restaurant was very crowded Mallon was arrested for his own safety.

Inspector Sean Glynn then said that Mallon had a total of 56 previous convictions which included prison sentences for obstruction of a garda and tresspass. He is currently serving 10 months in prison.

Defence solicitor Olivia Traynor said that her client has a serious problem with alcohol but was using his time in prison constructively by getting help for his addiction.

Judge Mary Fahy convicted and sentenced Mallon to two months, to run concurrently with the sentence he is already serving. He was also fined €200 payable forthwith. She then warned Mallon that if he did not do something about his alcohol problem he would be back before the court again.
