Galway's Alan Kerins features on the latest GAA Minor Moments podcast, which is running for ten weeks over the course of the Electric Ireland Camogie and GAA Minor Championships.
The Galway dual player was a member of the Galway Senior Hurling team from 1997 and a member of the Galway Senior Football team from 2001, winning three All-Ireland medals, five Connacht titles, three league medals and two All-Star awards during his intercounty career on both hurling and football.
In the episode, Alan looks back on his intercounty career in both codes and describes how he learned to enjoy his intercounty career more as he got older.
His family ran a B&B where former Republic of Ireland football manager Jack Charlton was a regular guest in the 1980s. Alan, then in primary school, was driven to school by Jack, who became a lifelong family friend to the Kerins' household.
Kerins chats about his life outside sport, volunteering in Africa and Zambia where he "picked up a lot of life lessons" during his time there. His time there also helped him realise how to enjoy his playing career more and it also made him play on the GAA pitch with a smile.
Kerins started Legacy Forest after bringing 50 GAA players to Kenya, all having raised 10,000 euros for planting trees. Players from each code in GAA and LGFA attended and travelled to Kenya, and it also saw the first GAA game take place in Kenya with participants from each code in intercounty GAA.
