Experience The Nomadic Indie-Rock Soul of The Frisky Gypsys at Monroe’s Live

The fusion of musical influences that fuels the nomadic soul of Cork-based indie-rock band, The Frisky Gypsys is set to ignite the stage at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, May 13. Renowned for their dynamic performances, this energetic four piece effortlessly cross the genres between modern alternative, pop and classic rock, while remaining strongly grounded to contemporary folk-rock roots.

It is this eclectic combination that has gained The Frisky Gypsys a solid reputation as one of Ireland’s most passionate and soulful original bands. Formed by vocalist Steven Hamilton, his gritty tones convey their emotionally charged lyrics, giving the group a unique sound which has captured the hearts of their audience.

Having opened for The Riptide Movement at the Castle Marquee in Wexford last year, The Frisky Gypsys are on an upward trajectory. Their edgy, raw style and rousing guitar riffs build to catchy crescendos, leaving listeners with the power of the chorus, long after the song has ended.

Hot on the heels of their single, ‘Love is Blind’ the group released their album ‘Window to the World’ in 2022 to widespread acclaim. For lead singer Steven Hamilton, the chance to perform their original work is nothing short of “magical”.

Leaning to play the guitar in his 20s, his stellar musical journey has led him to become the creative force of the group, staying true to his gypsy like busking origins. A former member of The Band Anna, he has travelled across Europe and is as comfortable jamming at home with friends as he is playing on stage to a packed crowd.

Together, the Frisky Gypsys have echoes of the likes of REM, Cast and Inspiral Carpets. Their rolling rhythms and new wave pop rock feel has matured over the years, as they have worked hard on their craft to bring a fresh sound to the Irish indie scene.

Their rustic charm and honest exploration of the human condition through song allows them to, on the one hand, be both soothing and sentimental, whilst on the other hand deliver up-tempo and exciting beats that reflect the determination of this vibrant band.

Don’t miss your chance to catch The Frisky Gypsys on Saturday, May 13 at Monroe’s Live from 11pm. Tickets to the gig cost €10 and are available from monroes.ie
