Electric Volkswagens hitting the right chords

Volkswagen's impressive and growing electric vehicle range is hitting all the right chords with Irish motorists.

The German brand led the way in EV sales in Ireland last year, with its ID.4 topping the electric vehicle sales charts here for the second year running, selling 2,983 units in 2022. The smaller ID.3 also boasted sales of 924 units last year.

Sales of the ID.4 are continuing to power ahead well into 2023, with the fully-electric SUV by far the best selling EV to date in Ireland this year (1,712 units sold as of 3rdMay ).

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz also scored an impressive treble at the Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year Awards. The passenger model was named as the Irish Car of the Year 2023, and the Irish MPV of the Year. The van version meanwhile was named the Irish Van of the Year in the same awards.

Coming into 2023, Volkswagen's ID. range of fully-electric cars included the ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, ID. Buzz and the e-up!. This range continues to grow, with the recent introduction of the ID.7, an all-electric saloon with a promised range of up to 700km. It is scheduled for Ireland for Q4 2023 and will be on sale from next January. Exact pricing will be announced closer to that time.

Also recently unveiled by Volkswagen was the ID.2, a compact electric hatchback which will possibly replace the ever-popular Golf. While not due here until around 2025, Volkswagen said the ID.2 will cost less than €25,000 and offer a range of up to 450km.
