CORTOON SHAMROCKS V ANNAGHDOWN:

(Sun 7pm – Tuam)

This is most definitely the tie of the round.

Cortoon were in last year’s county final and will be disgusted if their 2009 championship campaign dies a death at this early stage.

They could only muster 1-06 against Caltra and four of those were frees from Michael Martin. They have a reasonably solid defence with the likes of David Finnegan, Donal O’Neill and the two Gilmores all good players. However, if they are to advance, they will need more scoring support for the robust Mickey Costello who led the forward charge in their defeat to Caltra.

Annaghdown will believe they were unfortunate to go down to Tuam the last day out, but their over-dependence on Mathias Coleman (0-4 ) and Frankie Burke (0-6 ) for scores is a major problem for them.

If O’Neill, Finnegan, or Bríon Gilmore can put the shackles on them this Sunday, where else will they go to for scores?

There is very little between the sides, but if Michael Martin, David Warde, and Derek Savage can lift their game and each man chips in with a few scores from play, then Barry Downey’s men will just sneak it.

Go on Annaghdown, prove me wrong.

Silke’s Prediction: Cortoon Shamrocks
