Niall Crehan is the youngest son of the accomplished Clare whistle and concertina player Vincent Crehan. With the support of his father, Niall was a highly proficient violinist from a young age in both Irish traditional music and classical music. He won the Father Matthew feis in under 14's and also won a multitude of competitions in the fleadh with groupí ceol, and also in slow air competitions.
Niall ran the renowned music shop, Crehan Musical instruments with his brother Kieran which now, thanks to their efforts, caters for everyone from high end to beginner musicians in both classical and traditional music. Niall lives in Kildare where he teaches and plays at many sessions throughout the year.
Back in 2013, Niall Crehan was commissioned to write a tune for the 20th anniversary of the twinning of Eyrecourt in Galway and Gouesnach in France (Eyrecourt, historically known as Donanaghta, is a village in Galway bounded by the River Shannon ).
Naming it "The Eyrecourt Jig", Crehan presented a copy of the tune to the mayor of Gouenach. It has become a regular and go-to session tune in Kildare and also all around Galway. Crehan, who has done some movie work over the years, was recently involved in upcoming film 'Royal Rendezvouz' starring Isabella Gomez, Ruairi O’Connor and Ronan Raftery. Premiering on Sunday, February 26, it's an Irish-American film produced for American network E!
Crehan stars as a fiddler in the film and gets the chance to play 'The Eyrecourt Jig'. Keep your eyes peeled for 'Royal Rendezvous!'
