A 6-part series chronicling Fleadh Cheoil 2022 airs this month on RTÉ1

Red Shoe Productions and RTÉ presents Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2022, a 6-part series chronicling Fleadh Cheoil 2022. It will be broadcast on RTÉ One on Friday February 10 at 8.30pm.

The popular Fleadh Cheoil series will return to our screens on Friday, February 10, showcasing the best of Irish traditional music from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2022. Dubbed ‘The Homecoming’, 2022 saw the Fleadh returning to the town of Mullingar – the site of the first ever Fleadh Cheoil back in 1951. Hosted by John Creedon and Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, the series captures the craic, colour and ceol of Ireland’s biggest traditional music festival.

Across six episodes, viewers will be brought on a ramble through Mullingar, enjoying the street sessions and getting fully immersed in what Fleadh Cheoil is all about. John meets with many musicians and enjoys soaking up everything unique about Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. This year also sees the return of the campsite sessions as Muireann welcomes some of the younger musicians including Conor Arkins and Kevin Meehan, along with the Gradam Ceoil bursary recipients Brendan Kerr, Sinéad Stockman and Sorcha McKenna, who share a tune at the Fleadh campsite.

Visitors and residents alike are joined by colourful characters enjoying spontaneous music sessions under the glorious Irish August sunshine. Guests include Sharon Shannon, Mick Foster, Trad on the Prom, the Browne Brothers, Fuinneamh, Angelina Carberry and Dan Brouder, Joe Connaire, Breaking Trad, Sharon Howley and Briste. Musicians from the USA and Europe add an international flavour, while Taobh na Mara céilí band is followed on their exciting journey through the Céilí Band competition.
