Rory and the Island to perform at Monroe’s Live
Having worked with top artists such as Sharon Shannon, Paul Brady, Wallis Bird and Shane McGowan, Donegal singer-songwriter Rory Gallagher is carving his own niche as a solo artist following his soaring career with Irish indie band The Revs. The acclaimed vocalist is attracting a new fan base thanks to his upbeat and witty lyrics which lifted many during the pandemic.
Performing as Rory and the Island, his quirky song, Ryanair Blues, became a surprise online hit, while his original compositions ‘When the Lights Go Down’ and ‘Miss This’ scooped the No. 1 slot in the Irish iTunes charts in 2022. His versatility is such that he created the popular ‘Boys in Green’ anthem for the Irish soccer team for the Euro 2012 competition and wrote the music for Irish boxer Jason Quigley's debut pro fight in Las Vegas, ‘Make Way for the Fighting Irish’.
Thanks to the success of his recent work, Rory has sold out shows across Ireland and the UK. Now he is returning to Galway on Saturday, January 28 to bring his unique musical stylings and comedic banter to the Monroe’s Live stage. Fresh from releasing his EP, ‘Centre Comes Together’, Rory and the Island is set to entertain a west of Ireland audience with his creative folk charm.
His down to earth approach and melodic panache come to the fore through this highly-anticipated EP. Rory and the Island treads the line between satire and humour with a dark edge, complete with a nod to the sound of The Beatles, The Divine Comedy and Phil Spector. Through his lyrical lens, we are brought on a critical journey through the stories of our time, with his lively wit and vocal talent.
