Menlough based bakery, Butler's Home Bakery has been bringing the goodness of granny's bread to households across Galway since established in 2010.

Armed with a "very good brown bread recipe" handed down from family matriarchs, chef James Butler opened the bakery in 2010 during the economic downturn. Family is at the core of Butler's bakery with James's wife, Catherine, overseeing the growth and development of the company and numerous family members pitching in to help; their hard work allowing Butler's Home Bakery to expand their production and distribution and become who they are today.

"Mammy's and granny's brown bread was famous in our house. I used to sit and watch her make it and I loved every minute of it," said James Butler, founder of Butler's Home Bakery.

"Our bread has that homely smell you can remember from childhood. It's granny's bread, and that is what has made Butler's so successful and where we are today because we have held onto that at the core of our business. We make granny's wholesome bread."

While it may have started with that initial brown bread recipe, Butler's have added to its repertoire with eight new products, including an extremely popular porridge bread which can be described as one of the lightest, fluffiest porridge breads on the market. Supported by five employees, including drivers Patrick and Tony and bakers Chris and Katie, Butler's Home Bakery is ever adapting and looking forward, making sure that they pour some of that wholesome warmth into each product.

As a local business, the ability to use local products and suppliers when making their baked goods is of the utmost importance. With 95 percent of the ingredients used in the bakery being of Irish origin, with eggs coming from nearby village, Barnaderg. When customers purchase Butler's products, they are supporting numerous Irish businesses and farmers.
