A former All Ireland senior hurler whose business has become embroiled in an alleged multi-million euro egg fraud is now wanted by the British authorities.
According to national reports, British authorities are seeking the extradition and surrender of 48-year-old businessman Pearse Piggott who is accused of being involved in fraud when eggs were falsely passed off to British consumers as free range or organic.
Piggott of Ballylennon, Gort, Galway, who runs the egg distribution firm Pearse Piggott and Sons, faces charges of conspiracy to defraud, false accounting, and perverting the course of justice.
At the High Court earlier this week, Piggott was remanded in custody with consent to bail. It is claimed that Piggott was involved in a scheme where production numbers on the eggs were altered and that supplier details were incorrect.
Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy granted Piggott bail on conditions including that he sign on with local gardaí, surrender his passport and all travel documents, live at his home address, and provide a surety of €10,000
