Still a very popular method of sale and holding its own, O’Donnellan & Joyce live property auctions went from strength to strength in 2022 with auction sales totaling €23 million. David Brandt Studios continued to stream O’Donnellan & Joyce auctions live online. Although the option to bid on the phone or online are still popular, after the lockdowns finally lifted buyers were back in the auction room bidding in person with great enthusiasm.
O’Donnellan & Joyce’s live stream online bidding platform continues to attract international bidders as well as national and local bidders who can bid online and view the auctions from the comfort of their own homes, thus lending itself to a dramatic increase of audiences across the world.
With properties for sale throughout the year dominated by Galway city and county there were many sales of properties from Donegal down to Cork and Mayo to Wexford; sales were reported from all four provinces. The first of seven auctions in 2022 kicked off on February 25 with 26 properties for sale, resulting in a total sales figure of €4.9 million.
Highlights of the auction included No 6 Renmore Road, Galway, a detached spacious four bedroom family home, on a substantial site opposite Bon Secours Hospital. It came to the market with an AMV of €350,000 and sold for €467,000. No 81 Forster Court, a four bed semi in the city centre, sold for €395,000. No 159 Dun na Coiribe, a five bed semi on the Headford Road, sold for €405,000. Another five bed at No 42 Dun Aengus on the docks sold for €480,000.
Friday April 8 saw another 23 properties go under the hammer. Galway sales included Kilcaimin Cottage, a traditional Irish thatched cottage near Oranmore, which came to the market with an AMV of €125,000 and sold at €155,000. Out west No 105 Clifden Glen, a two bed, sold for €95,000, and Riona, No 46 Sycamore Drive in Highfield Park, sold for €550,000. Two houses at Cois na hAbhainn, Ballygaddy Road, Tuam, sold for €174,000 (No 74, a three bed ) and €207,000 (No 88, a four bed ).
The auction of May 27 sold €4.25 million worth of property. Undoubtedly the highlights of this auction included the bungalow and lands at Saint Peter, Coolough Road, Menlo, Galway. Offered in one lot or in two separate lots, both lots sold together for €370,000. Gort an tSamhraidh portfolio, Claregalway Shopping Centre, consisting of six self-contained residential apartments, four three-beds and two two-bed units, with independent off street access, sold for €820,000. Guiding €795,000, a beautifully appointed seven bedroom residence at No 102 Father Griffin Road, Galway, sold for €850,000.
Grossing €2.64 million, the July 8 auction saw 14 properties sold under the hammer. No 80 Forster Court, a four bed semi with garage guiding €370,000, sold for €515,000. An industrial unit of 1,800sq ft at Unit 6, Royal Rock Estate 1, Ballybane, sold for €230,000. O’Grady’s Bar & Restaurant in Gort sold for €340,000, and the well-known bar and restaurant at the Monks Well in Quin, Co Clare, sold for €270,000. Hulk Street, Clifden, saw a two bed apartment sold for €85,000, and the ground floor office in the same building selling for €150,000.
September 16 was filled with sales in some of the border and midland counties. No 69 Church Street in Cavan town sold for 116,000. Four apartments in one building at Riverside, Ballinamore, sold for a total of €243,000. No 7 Abbots Hill in Belturbet, Co Cavan, sold for €145,000, and No 11 Cypress Gardens in Athlone sold for €212,000. Nearer to home Earlspark, Loughrea, sold for €240,000, and a ground floor two bed apartment at No 43 Millbrook in Milltown sold for €87,000. However, the jewel in the crown of the September auction was the sale of No 20 Riverside in Woodquay, Galway, a three bedroom detached home with garage overlooking the River Corrib onto Galway Cathedral. It sold for €450,000 to a delighted buyer. Total sales that day came to €2.4 million.
The November 4 auction had €1.455 million in property sales with the high point sale being a large two bed apartment at No 53 Creagan in Barna village. It has two fervent bidders chasing it and it was knocked down at €305,000. A three bed semi at No 19 Rockmount Road in Highfield Park, needing work, sold at €300,000, and a two acre site with three unfinished houses sold in Garrafrauns, near Tuam, for €130,000.
The final auction on December 9 rounded off the year with sales in Galway, Meath, Donegal, Clare, Limerick, and Roscommon.
A semidetached four bed at No 17 Caislean Ri, Athenry, sold for €210,000. A three bed end-of-terrace house at No 11 Clusker Park in Navan sold for €154,000, and a two bed apartment at No 19 Leim an Bhradain in Ennis sold for €110,000. Bohoona Spiddal, had a three bed bungalow needing some loving care and attention which sold for €200,000. No 16 Harristown Student Village in Limerick sold for €135,000, and three unfinished houses sold at Callancor, Drumkeen, Co Donegal, for €100,000.
