Galway songwriter & folk singer Mick Brown releases first song

Galway songwriter, folk singer and community facilitator Mick Brown is releasing his first song this Friday November 11.

Already it has been played on Galway Bay FM, Midwest Radio, KCLR, Kinvara Community Radio and on The David Dee Moore show (which broadcasts on the International Blues and Roots Radio ). Mick says: “I’m blown away by the positive response and amount of radio plays that the track has received in advance of its official launch this Friday.”

In 2017, Mick's song 'The Gift Of Life' was commissioned for an event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first Heart Transplant. Sung by Eleanor Shanley, at the event in the Circle of Life garden, Salthill, the performance was broadcast on various TV & radio stations including RTE1 and TG4.

In Mick’s own words: “'Somewhere Further Down the Line’ attempts to capture the ordinary everyday happenings that make up a life of love. The song commemorates a whole generation who have passed on, good people who lived and loved well, and who left us treasures. The hope in the song is that one day we may meet our loved ones who have gone."

‘Somewhere Further Down The Line’, features on Mick’s upcoming debut EP of original songs, scheduled for release early next year. The song was recorded and mixed by Axel Grude in Songcraft Studio, Garrafrauns. In addition, award-winning Galway based fiddle player, Michael Chang plays viola and fiddle on the track.

Mick’s songs are rooted in the fabric of his life which embraces community, family, generosity, peace and nature, and are grounded in the traditional and folk style of the west of Ireland. With influences including John Spillane, Christy Moore, Liam Clancy and Bob Dylan it's easy to understand the appeal being of Mick’s music.

Of his live performances to date, Mick is particularly proud of his song, 'Gaillimh Abú', and his performances of this at events in Eyre Square and at the homecoming of the victorious All Ireland winning Galway Hurling team at Pearse Stadium in 2017. Another milestone for Mick was when he had the privilege to open the show for a songwriting hero of many years, John Spillane, back in May 2022, at Drimoleague Singing Festival.
