In line with Zimmer Biomet’s commitment to creating, supporting and celebrating diverse, equal and inclusive workplaces and communities, the Company recently hosted a Women’s Inspired Network (WIN ) event at its manufacturing operations in Oranmore.
Organised with the support of both Galway and Shannon Chambers of Commerce, the event attracted an audience of over 60 people – women and men – from both Zimmer Biomet and the broader business community in the West and Mid-West regions.
In March of this year, International Women’s Day celebrated the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women globally. This year’s theme, #BreakTheBias, invited everyone to come together to reimagine a future free from bias, stereotypes and discrimination, a world where difference is valued and celebrated, regardless of gender identity. The Zimmer Biomet event was designed to advance that conversation within an Irish context and local setting.
Guest speaker at the event, Anna Geary, sports and TV Personality spoke about her experience of breaking the bias both on and off the sports field before discussing the importance of having the right mindset and achieving a positive state of wellness. A panel discussion, featuring Caroline Healy, Medtronic and Lisa Casserly, Zimmer Biomet also took place followed by questions and answers.
Welcoming the group, Liz Corry of Zimmer Biomet’s Manufacturing Operations in Ireland said the company understands the value that diverse perspectives can bring as we work towards our mission to alleviate pain and improve the quality of life for people around the world.
“We continue to embrace diversity and inclusion within our own team and are keen to collaborate with other companies, share best practice and make new connections. It is important to say that we need male allies and we want to hear from and involve the men in our industry, too. Together, we will increase diversity and ignite even more innovation.”
Established in 2019, Zimmer Biomet’s Women’s Inspired Network (WIN ) in Ireland is a voluntary, employee-led group, working to raise awareness and inspire action through educational events and mentoring. The goal is to alleviate the disparities and issues women face in the workplace, particularly in orthopaedics, and to encourage and enable personal and professional well-being and development.
A leading employer in Oranmore, Co Galway and Shannon, Co Clare since 2008, Zimmer Biomet’s footprint in Ireland features two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.
