Bobby Davro - one man joke machine at GCF22

BOBBY DAVRO is a comedian, actor, impressionist, and singer, but above all, he is a relentless one man joke machine.

Galway is in for a treat when this most versatile and experienced of British comedians plays the Town Hall Theatre as part of the 2022 Galway Comedy Festival.

In a career of more than 40 years, Bobby has amassed a list of credits as long as your arm – if you have a really long arm. He had his breakthrough in 1983 appearing on ITV variety show, Live At Her Majesty’s, and from there went on to do his own shows - On the Box, TV Weekly, and Bobby Davro Show. In the noughties he played loveable rogue Vinny Monk on EastEnders, and has appeared on numerous reality TV shows, including Celebrity Big Brother, Dancing On Ice, and Come Dine With Me.

However, it is as a stand-up comedian and joke teller where Bobby shines brightest and best. Once he starts, the flow of jokes, and the sheer quality of them, never let up for a moment.

“Most comedians now are conversational…whereas mine tends to be more one line joke types,” he told thefancarpet.com “So it’s much easier to understand and get me. It’s like a nice cup of tea. Funny is funny and I do a lot of audience participation, so that really works.”

Bobby is also, as Chortle.co.uk said, “a talented mimic” who delivers “brilliant impersonations”. He has a routine at his shows called ‘Still Alive at the Apollo’, where he impersonates leading contemporary comics like Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Sarah Millican, Alan Carr, Jo Brand, and Jimmy Carr, as well as scientist, Dr Brian Cox.

Galway audiences can expect some of these voices to emerge from Bobby during his Town Hall show, as well as his trademark relentless stream of brilliant gags.

Bobby Davro performs Taking The Mimic at the Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday October 26. Special guest is Ian Coppinger. Tickets are on sale via www.galwaycomedyfestival.ie
