ATU to host Mathemagical shows for primary and secondary school pupils during Maths Week

Atlantic Technological University (ATU ) in conjunction with Maths Week 2022 will host two of Steve Sherman’s Edutaining Mathemagical Shows for primary and secondary school pupils at its Galway city campus next Friday, October 21.

Steve Sherman’s internationally acclaimed Edutaining Mathemagical Show promises to shine a new spotlight on maths, magic, and his ability to combine both. His presentations involve audience participation and have been known to make students smile uncontrollably.

The first show is for secondary school students (first and second years ) and runs from 10.30am to 11.30am. The second show, for primary school children (fourth to sixth class ) runs from 1pm to 2pm. Both will take place in Theatre 1000 at the Galway city (Dublin Road ) campus.

Event co-ordinater and maths lecturer Dr Aoife O’Brien, Dept of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, said: “We are delighted to welcome primary school children and second-level pupils to our events on October 21. Teachers, we urge you to book as soon as possible as places are limited.

“There will be goodie bags and refreshments on the day and students can avail of a tour of the engineering facilities, assisted by student ambassadors. The event is being sponsored by our School of Engineering and the School of Science.”

Dr Oliver Mulryan, Head of Dept of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, added: “We’re delighted that Dr Aoife O’Brien is managing this outreach event for us. We hope that the event will inspire some of these pupils to choose engineering in the future.”
