Calling all ‘mothers and others’ - it’s time to don the football boots again

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association’s programme to encourage women to play the game in fun, non-competitive and social environment returns for the first time since 2019 with a national blitz.

The Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme will host the competition on Saturday September 3 at Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester’s GAA clubs in Dublin.

Sponsored by Sports Direct, the Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme has proven immensely popular since its inception, with almost 400 clubs from all 32 counties currently involved, with the aim to keep growing in 2022.

Speaking ahead of the Sports Direct Gaelic4Mothers&Others National Blitz, Ciara Murray, head of marketing at sports Direct, says the company is proud to be entering its second year of partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association and to continue to support this "incredible initiative".

"Gaelic4Mothers&Others allows women to carve out time for themselves and to put themselves first in a welcoming and playful environment. We are delighted to be able to support the return of the National Blitz this year and look forward to celebrating the incredible women who make up this programme on September 3 at Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester’s GAA clubs.”

President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association Mícheál Naughton commented: “Sports Direct’s involvement with the Gaelic4Mothers&Others programme has helped this important initiative grow from strength to strength over the last year and we are delighted, in their second year of support, to be able to bring back the National Blitz. Sports Direct continue to commit to grassroots support of Gaelic Games and we look forward to our continued work together to help further grow this programme and the Gaelic4Mothers&Others community.”
