€5 million saved by Galway business through LEO Lean for Micro programme

Galway businesses have saved a combined total of almost €5 million through the Local Enterprise Office Lean for Micro programme since it began.

Lean For Micro is designed to encourage clients to adopt Lean business principles in their organisations to increase performance and competitiveness.

Despite popular belief, this programme is suited to businesses of all sizes and in all sectors – it’s not just for big manufacturers. Past participants of the LEO Galway Lean programme have reported major, measurable increases in productivity, sales, and efficiencies as well as reduced waste and lower costs.

Beechlawn Organics — “We found the Lean for Micro programme taught us to stand back and examine the business and it quickly helped us identify the areas of the business we needed to streamline and concentrate on. By implementing Lean processes, we cut out waste in the packing area and increased productivity levels by 53% and made savings which improved profit levels.”

Other successful past participants of the programme include Red Belt, 3D Technology, Dr Clare Apothecary and Kinvara Skincare. Along with the tangible benefits reaped by these local companies, they’ve also reported improvements in staff morale, better collaboration and improved internal communications.

HOW IT WORKS

The Lean Service Provider will visit the company, evaluate its processes, and speak with the company’s managers about challenges faced by the business and the improvement project opportunities to be carried out over several weeks. Several Lean tools and techniques will be applied as appropriate to the needs of the business and improvement project at-hand. Additionally, management and staff will be trained and mentored on Lean.
