No surprises as champs Mountbellew/Moylough enjoy solid win

Corofin, Moycullen and Tuam Stars maintained their 100 per cent record in the Galway Senior Football Championsip at the weekend.

Corofin eased to a 3-24 to 0-9 win over Leitir Mor, with goals from Dylan McHugh, Gary Sice and Martin Farragher.

Tuam defeated An Spideal by double scores on Saturday afternoon 0-16 to 0-8 with Jamie Murphy returning to form after a quiet first round, scoring 0-8 for his side and putting in a dominant showing at full-forward.

Elsewhere on Sunday afternoon Moycullen defeated Oughterard 1-17 to 0-14. After a slow start again, the 2020 champions took over in the second half and eased to the win with the goal coming from Dessie Conneelly and 0-5 from play from Owen Gallagher.

Mountbellew/Moylough and Salthill/Knocknacarra made it two wins at the weekend. Last year’s champions continued their good start with a 3-16 to 0-11 win over An Cheathru Rua. Barry McHugh scored 2-5 and Patrick Kelly bagged his third goal of the championship after just two games.

Rob Finnerty was on form yet again with a clinical performance against Annaghdown, scoring 1-6 in their 1-18 to 1-8 win. Bearna bounced back from their disappointing loss to defeat a limited St James' side 4-12 to 0-7.

Group C has started as expected - this being the tightest group so far.

Milltown continued their impressive form when registering a three-point win over St Michael’s, 3-7 to 1-10.

Trailing by six points in first-half injury time, the ‘Scans’ struck two quick-fire goals through the impressive Michael Martin and Mark Hehir.

Hehir and Martin combined to score 3-6 of their side's total and put them in the driving seat for qualification from this group.

Killannin and Claregalway both made up for their first-round defeats with wins over Monivea-Abbey and Caherlistrane respectively. A 59th minute goal from midfielder Darragh Walsh proved to be the difference.

Claregalway eased to a 3-12 to 0-9 win over Caherlistrane with Galway senior goalkeeper Conor Flaherty playing outfield and scoring the first goal for his side.

The third round of fixtures takes place on the weekend of August 25/26/27
