Portaferry singer-songwriter Ryan McMullan whose album-making was the basis for a documentary at last year's Galway Film Fleadh, releases his new single ‘Wilder’ tomorrow.
An anthemic up-tempo pop tune, it’s easy to imagine fans with their hands in the air for this one. Ryan explains the lyrics: ‘it’s really just about having fun. I think almost everyone has been in a position of feeling a little reserved and maybe wanting to get out of their shell a bit more. Then meeting that someone who helps you to do it.
"That’s What happened to me in this instance. I am quite reserved off the stage and dancing isn’t exactly my forte, but I found myself on a night out with someone who was larger than life and made me want to be also.’
‘Wilder’ is the third single to be taken from Ryan’s forthcoming debut album Redesignwhich will be released on August 26.
The process of recording the album was shown in the documentary Debut which was directed by award-winning filmmaker Brendan J. Byrne and shown last year at Galway Film Fleadh and on the BBC.
The film centres around a four-day recording and listening session in Cruit Island, County Donegal at the end of 2019, where Ryan and his team assessed all the songs competing for a place on the album. Threaded through this is the story of Ryan’s nascent career and journey to stardom.
Ryan will be promoting Redesign with a series of gigs around Ireland, the UK and Europe throughout 2022 and 2023.
Having toured with household names including Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol, Ryan has also sold out the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin and a string of back-to-back dates in Róisín Dubh in Galway.
Ryan’s headlining gig at Custom House Square in Belfast on August 27 2022 will be his biggest show to date. With talent to burn, Ryan should to get used to sold-out gigs and hit records; they’ll be a big part of his future.
He plays Monroes in Galway on September 18 before departing on a tour of the US and Canada. www.ryanmcmullanmusic.com
