Having stitched a 10 match league unbeaten run together, Alan Murphy's Galway WFC host Sligo Rovers in the WNL at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday (2pm ).
The 5-1 win over Cork City at the Corribside venue was the latest effective display from Murphy's developing team, who grabbed three early goals to seize control.
"It was a strong start, I won't say we put the game to bed early, but some could look at it that way," Murphy says. "Cork were actually decent, they have changed a lot under Danny Murphy, they are very well organised and play a nice brand.
"They had some chances, I don't think it was a 5-1 being honest when I reflect on it. We did our part, we performed well, we executed very well. We were probably disappointed with a few different aspects from the game - Chloe [Singleton] getting sent off, so we will miss Chloe next week, then we had a few other little niggles and injuries picked up. We have to readdress to see where we are at for next week."
Bryce Reynolds and Jamie Erickson were solid in defence for Galway WFC with Murphy acknowledging their contribution. "They have been a here a while now, they have bought into what we do, and they have gone about their business pretty quietly, " he says.
"They are really good, they have blended in well, and the girls have taken to them here. So at the moment they are performing well, they are in the team. It is very much week by week, we have to now look at next week to see how we go again, to keep that level of performance and the result is hopefully the by product."
Murphy is impressed with how Sligo have adapted to the WNL in their first season at this level. "Athlone, I won't say were lucky, but they were really happy to get out with a win I presume in the end last week," he responds.
"Sligo performed really well and had them on the ropes for a while. We cannot take anything for granted, we have to be really on our game, the performance has to be as high as it has been for the last 10 league games. We cannot drop our standards, no matter who plays and how we set up. It will be an interesting one, Sligo are performing really well. They have some really dangerous players so it is a good test for us."
Murphy is satisfied that his Galway WFC side is moving in the right direction. "Any manager wants consistency and wants consistency across the club and across the entire team and community," Murphy replies.
"Things change every week, you have an injured player here and there, a player suspended, whatever it might be. Hopefully we will bring the same level of performance and hopefully people in Galway might come out to support the girls. Also it would be great if they'd support an initiative we have at the moment, we are fundraising for the club, we have a raffle for two GAA tickets for the weekend. It would be great if people continue to buy those."
