Galway's Liam Shaw finished a terrific season with a gold medal at Schools' International SIAB event in Belfast at the weekend
Shaw produced a massive throw of 16.45m in the shot putt to claim gold and was one of several Galway athletes, including Amy Rose Kelly of South Galway AC and Matthieu Madden of GCH, to shine at the prestigious event which included England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland athletes.
Amy Rose Kelly scored on the girls' 4X300m relay team that won silver, as did Matthieu Madden on the boys' 4X100m relay team.
The squad management were led by the experienced Mary Barrett and Kathryn Casserly.
National Juvenile Championships
Relays grabbed the spotlight a the final weekend of the juvenile championships which took place in blazing sunshine in Tullamore.
Craughwell AC reigned supreme, winning two gold medals and a bronze relay medal via the U15 boys, U14 girls, and U14 boys.
The U15 boys' team were first up, with individual gold winner Conor Penney helping his club to medals. Along with Dean McNally, Joshua Whyte and Donnacha Lawless, the four combined for a victory that was then repeated by Craughwelll's U14 boys of Ethan Stace, Kai Watters, Dara Simpson and Tom Malone, who followed suit with victory.
The Craughwell U14 girls secured team bronze with the squad comprising Katie Leen, Lauren Morgan, Beth Glynn and anchor leg Rachel Warde, while GCH were also on the podium. The U15 boys won silver in the relay, while the talented U19 girls claimed double silver in the 4X100m and 4x400m events, and the U18 girls won bronze in the 4 X400m.
In the All-Ireland B championships, Max Madden of Craughwell won the U14 shot putt, while GCH won three golds via Finn Lynagh over 600m, and Theo Cullinane Vaux and Richard McGrath in their respective long jump events.
National Juniors and U23s Championships
Laura Nally of GCH continued her super season with a well-deserved national gold medal in the U23 100m on Sunday.
The talented Galway City Harrier, who won the national title after many years of dedicated training, also claimed a bronze over 200m.
Richard Kamson added more silverware to his trophy cabinet, winning U23 triple jump silver, while Alix Joyce of Tuam AC excelled to claim the U20 silver in the 400m hurdles.
Craughwell AC secured two bronze medals via Kyle Moorhead and Paddy Noonan at junior level - Moorhead clocking 1.55 for bronze over 800 metres, while Noonan ran a smart 4.07 for 1500m bronze.
There were also bronze medals for sprinter Andrew Egan of GCH over 400m at junior level, as well as a bronze medal for Aine O'Farrell of GCH in the arduous U23 women's 3000m for GCH.
Galway County Track and Field
The final night of the Galway Track and Field Championships saw Stephen Casserly of Castlegar AC take victory in the Tim Colleran Mile race, with Brian O'Connor of GCH storming home to win the demanding 10,000 metres event.
Streets of Galway 8k
The popular Streets of Galway takes place at 7pm on Saturday August 6. This 36th edition, sponsored by the Galway Clinic and organised by Galway City Harriers, returns to its 2019 route around the city with some 3,000 athletes expected to participate.
