Citroen unveils updated new C5 Aircross SUV

Citroen has announced full details of its facelifted C5 Aircross SUV, which it says has undergone significant design enhancements as part of the latest product refresh.

Pricing for the new C5 Aircross SUV starts from €38,990.

It now boasts a newly designed front end, which incorporates a new design language and interpretation of the brand logo. And there are also freshly designed rear taillights.

Citroen says the addition of lavish new interior seating also enhances the aesthetic appeal of this vehicle.

The facelifted version of this C-segment SUV, which has been the bestselling Citroen passenger car in Ireland since 2020, will be available with a choice of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions, and first models are set to arrive in Ireland next month for the 222-registration period.

The C5 Aircross also offers an impressive ground clearance of 230mm for true off-road appeal.

Citroen tells us that the facelifted C5 Aircross will be available in six different colour options, including the new Eclipse Blue option which changes shade based on the external light exposure.

Inside, the fully customisable 12.3” digital display provides all essential and customisable information directly in the driver’s eye-line ensuring optimal road visibility at all times. There is also a newly designed 10” touchscreen infotainment system (My Citroen Drive ) which comes as standard from the second trim level and provides a more modern feel to the cabin. This new design improves ergonomics by allowing the air vents to move below the screen to ensure a higher reading position. The new C5 Aircross is equipped with the latest generation of Citroën Advanced Comfort® seats, offering high-density foam in the core of the seat with an extra 15mm layer of memory foam featuring a specific design to resist sagging over time.

Citroen boasts the new C5 Aircross retains characteristics that make it stand out in its segment, contributing to an overall experience focused on well-being and ease of use. The Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension, exclusive to Citroen, enhances absorption of imperfections in the road and ensures that passengers travel in absolute comfort. C5 Aircross is the only SUV in the segment to offer three individual sliding, reclining and retractable rear seats, allowing MPV modularity in true SUV style.

Latest-generation technologies

The boot volume is a record for the segment: from 580L to 720L in the petrol and diesel versions and from 460L to 600L for the hybrid version. Citroen claims that special attention has also been paid to the acoustic characteristics with laminated front windows enhancing cabin comfort.

The new C5 Aircross also offers a wide range of latest-generation technologies and features 20 benchmark driver-assistance systems including highway driver assist, a level two autonomous driving system that combines adaptive cruise control with a stop and go function, and the active lane departure warning system to provide enhanced safety for all occupants.

In terms of engines, the C5 Aircross will provide an offering suitable for all uses with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options available. The petrol offering will see a 1.2 litre PureTech 130hp engine paired to either a six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmission. The diesel 1.5 litre BlueHDi 130hp engine will also be matched to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, while the plug-in hybrid version will feature a 1.6 litre petrol engine paired to an 80kw electric motor to deliver a combined power output of 225hp with the possibility of driving up to 55km in full electric mode.

This plug-in hybrid version will also benefit from a range of online connected services to facilitate delayed charging and cabin pre-conditioning via the My Citroen smartphone app. Citroen claims that charging is fast, with a full charge completed in less than two hours using a standard wall-box connection.

The specification structure for the new C5 Aircross will start with a Feel Pack model (usually the middle specification grade ) before moving to a Flair model and finishing with a range topping C-Series special edition. The Feel Pack comes well equipped with 18” diamond cut alloys, LED headlights and taillights, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry and start. and a gloss black exterior colour pack on airbumps and fog light surrounds.
